The World Resources Institute (WRI) is an environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and improve people’s lives. Our mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. Because people are inspired by ideas, empowered by knowledge, and moved to change by greater understanding, WRI provides—and helps other institutions provide—objective information and practical proposals for policy and institutional change that will foster environmentally sound, socially equitable development. WRI organizes its work around four key programmatic goals: People & Ecosystems: Reverse rapid degradation of ecosystems and assure their capacity to provide humans with needed goods and services. Governance: Empower people and support institutions to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable decision-making. Climate Protection: Protect the global climate system from further harm due to emissions of greenhouse gases and help humanity and the natural world adapt to unavoidable climate change. Markets & Enterprise: Harness markets and enterprise to expand economic opportunity and protect the environment. A fifth goal—Institutional excellence—supports and enhances WRI’s ability to achieve results. |

Rocky Mountain Institute is often called a think tank. In our research, we address pragmatic designs, practices, and policies, not social theories or laboratory experiments. We've invented and extensively modeled a new vehicle design concept that has the potential to save more oil than OPEC sells. Our position papers have reframed the debates on energy and climate change, helping avoid billions of dollars in unwise investments. We've proposed a pioneering strategy for hastening the shift to a clean energy system based on hydrogen, and developed new engineering and architectural techniques that dramatically improve the human, environmental, and financial performance of buildings. RMI's research and consulting staff works with businesses, communities, and organizations around the world in three interconnected teams. The three teams are: Transportation Practices (MOVE and PHEV)
RMI's Research & Consulting provides an array of advisory services within — and more importantly, across — these areas of expertise: |

The IPCC was established to provide the decision-makers and others interested in climate change with an objective source of information about climate change. The IPCC does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Its role is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the latest scientific, technical and socio-economic literature produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change, its observed and projected impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. IPCC reports should be neutral with respect to policy, although they need to deal objectively with policy relevant scientific, technical and socio economic factors. They should be of high scientific and technical standards, and aim to reflect a range of views, expertise and wide geographical coverage. |
